KVIA's Marissa Monroy has announced she will be leaving the station soon, but she's staying in the Sun City.
Monroy has accepted a job with the City of El Paso as an economic development coordinator. The native El Pasoan joined KVIA's news team in May 2008.
"I cannot imagine a more incredible and rewarding experience than reporting on the issues affecting the community I call home," Monroy said. "I am so grateful to our viewers for letting me into their homes for the past three years and I look forward to continue working with the people of El Paso as I begin this new adventure in my life."
Among the more memorable stories Monroy has covered was the first and second trials of David Marmolejo, who was convicted by a San Antonio jury in March for murdering his mother. While covering Marmolejo's trial in San Antonio for almost two weeks, Monroy filed reports for six different newscasts daily.
Monroy also covered President Obama's visit to Fort Bliss and last year's historic Sun Bowl matchup pitting her alma mater, Notre Dame, against Miami.
Monroy has been recognized for her reporting with several awards from the Texas Associated Press, most recently garnering a first place award for Best General Assignment Reporting.

I wish her luck..she seems like a nice person.
I do have to say though I am curious to know what her qualifications are that enable her to go from a TV reporter to an economic development coordinator for the city...

Sweetest reporter I know. And solid skills. News junkies such as myself will certainly miss what she brought to the table.

She Will Be Missed

Robnelp - Marissa is a Notre Dame graduate. That's what makes her qualified. Now give me some fries with my order.

Apparently she also reported on the military too since she won a General Assignment deal. I thought she was hitched to that other 'ol boy, Abe what's his name, who also worked at KVIA?

What happened to that relationship that she had with Abe Lubetkin?
Posted by: Eddie R | May 19, 2011 at 01:43 PM
Eddie and Blago: Why is their relationship any of your business? Marissa is single and happy.
Posted by: Shelly C. | May 19, 2011 at 02:52 PM
It's not that it's our business per se, but given that she is in the public eye there's a natural curiosity, especially given the way they were carrying on in public with their romance. Besides, if she is single as you declare, there's plenty of high-powered, well-mannered, filthy rich men in this town who would like a crack at her.
Posted by: Blago | May 19, 2011 at 05:08 PM
Like a crack at her? With moonlight and magnolia language like that, Blago, how could Marissa resist? Perhaps you should take a closer look at your second descriptive phrase and put it into use before your mother lets you use her computer again.

Is that the best you can come up with, seriously? Lines about me living with my mother? Get real. Besides, I never said that I was one of the men who would be interested. I need a woman with big cans so I wouldn't be the one for her but I have a few brothers in solidarity who like her type.

Solitary, Blago, is the word you were reaching for and completely missed. It means alone, isolated, and while you misused the word, I'm absolutely positive that you are well versed in the concept. Don't forget to turn out the light in your mom's basement.

SO Abe dumped her for a Wisconsin chick? Interesting!

Only to you Eddie

The way "seriously" is defending a simple and rather obvious question about Marissa's qualifications for a taxpayer supported job tends to indicate that her qualifications NEED defending and can't stand on their own...

Real nice, Gigi. I hear she just lost her grandmother. I'm sure she'd love to wake up and read your crap. I wish people who are jealous of her would just leave her alone. She really is such a nice person. Oh, and by the way she has a Master's Degree in Public Policy I think. How many city employees can say that?
Posted by: GET A LIFE | June 03, 2011 at 09:33 AM
I agree with Get a life! Leave her alone already, she is way more than qualified. She has her bachelors from Notre Dame and a Master's from University of Southern California. She is in her 20's can date who ever she wants. What is it any of your guys business? What makes her qualified. She has worked with the Washington Wizards, various newspaper and public relations places in Washington D.C. and Southern California. I for one can not think of a better person to help promote our great city than someone who has her roots from here! Marissa don't let the haters get to you, they are just jealous they cant be with you :)!

Robnelp, I was defending Marissa from a moron who obviously got released from prison about 20 minutes before he posted about guys wanting to "take a crack at Marissa". Read the post THEN answer it.
Genius......
