Ramon Herrera, the workhorse reporter for KDBC-TV Channel 4 and KTSM Channel 9, is leaving El Paso on March 24. He has accepted an anchor/reporter job in Wilmington, N.C.
Herrera will begin work at WWAY-TV, the ABC affiliate in Wilmington in mid April.
"I'm happy," said the El Paso native and Montwood High School graduate. "It's an opportunity to get back on the anchor desk and get more experience."
Herrera had worked at KDBC since February 2009, soon after he graduated from Texas State University in San Marcos. He was one of two KDBC reporters who kept their jobs when KTSM took over management of KDBC late last year. Since then, he has been a fixture on both channels.
In Wilmington, Herrera will join his former KDBC news director Scott Pickey. The Wilmington market is smaller than El Paso, by the way. Wilmington is market 133. El Paso is 98.
Herrera is also leaving his spot as a board member of the El Paso Press Club.

Congratulations Ramon! I went to high school with Ramon and can honestly say that he deserves this opportunity. I know he'll make El Paso proud.

Ramon is moving up fast and it's well deserved. He'll enjoy the Wilmington area and can do lots of stories on the Cape Fear Atlantic coastal beaches. Happy trails, Ramon.

Getting exposure to the East Coast can help Ramon land a job in a bigger feeder market, such as Atlanta, Charlotte, Raleigh or Tampa (all markets with growing Latino population). The best of luck to you.

Yo EPT why don't you tell us about your own recent departure of Darren Meritz? I thought this was Media Buzz not Media Buzz as long as it doesn't concern us. Word is he was fired. What's up EPT?

Ramon is one of those people who have no idea how talented they really are. When he does, I have no doubt he will remain as grounded and down to earth as he was while I worked with him. Best of luck vato loco!

That Beau Bageley sports reporter on KDBC accidently said News Channel 9 on tonight's report. I found it hilarious how bad KTSM/KDBC is at right now when one of their reporters don't know what station they are.

I sure will be missing Ramon Herrera and Nicole Ayoub. They are both terrific personalities. I sure hope that Robert Bettes continues on. I hate to see all these fine people leaving so soon after they have started. just like K-Fox first it was Ben Swann and than ;I forgot her name, sorry! But, I still get to see Ben on KTSM.
