The El Paso Media Group's El Paso Magazine didn't print editions in August or September and it doesn't plan to print one in October either. Advertisers were advised by sales staff that their ads won't be published until November or December, when the magazine returns.
EP Mag publisher Keith Mahar said on Tuesday that the rising costs of putting a print product out are to blame.
“Due to an increase in paper and printing costs, coupled with decreases in overall advertising profits, El Paso Magazine restructured its print cycle to print once in the Fall, coming out with a Nov./Dec. issue," he said in an e-mail statement to the El Paso Times. "Following industry trends in publishing, in 2010 EPMG will focus on a stronger online model to include podcasting, multimedia content and blogs. Currently, all of the content previously published in El Paso Magazine is now available online for free."
In other news, KVIA-TV Channel 7 (cable Channel 6) announced that it has hired a new reporter. Jill Galus will be reporting out of the New Mexico mobile newsroom, management at the station said on Tuesday. That spot has been filled by several staffers for a while and will not feature Galus almost exclusively.
Galus is a Michigan native but graduated from Arizona State University in May. According to a press release from the station, she was part of a team that came in second that finished second this year in the prestigious for the Hearst Journalism Awards.

I just saw Jill Galus on the 6:00 news. One word--- What a looker!!!! Move over Celina Avila. Glad to see some eye candy, she did a pretty professional job reporting too! Good Luck to her!

El Paso magazine and San Antonio magazine are remarkably similar in layout, content, etc.
Not bad, for cities of such size.

El Paso Mag looks pretty good - it's a really a very good-quality rag, overall... content is pretty decent, albeit in a very advertorial vein, photos are usually really, really nice - and it's on VERY heavyweight stock, which makes it seem to be more upscale, etc.; but I kinda doubt they can make it long-term.
I just don't see an advertiser-supported market for their style of publications in the current environment, regardless of which market they're in, and possibly ESPECIALLY in El Paso... what do the rest of you guys think?

Whoa, slow down there, We wonder why. Jill is alright, but she's no Celina Avila. If anybody makes Celina move over, I'm throwing a fit!

Jill reminds me of Dina Richardson. Draw your own conclusions.

Celina Avila is a babe alright but I also sought Jill on the 6:00 news of ABC7 and wow, she is a looker. For right now, Celina > Jill. That may change soon when my wife reads this.
