Socorro ISD Middle Schools competed in the annual UIL One Act Play Competition at El Dorado High School on February 5th & 6th. According to Socorro ISD Fine Arts Director Nellie Ponikvar, Socorro ISD is the host of the largest middle school one act play competition in the state of Texas.
The UIL One Act Play is centered around a performance of the schools' choosing that must run under forty minutes. Each school uses a modular unit set that resembles a big set of grey blocks that allows them to build almost any kind of set that could be required for their shows.
Awards are handed out to 8 Honorable Mention All Star Cast members, 8 All Star Cast Members, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Tech Crew.
The top three plays are also ranked.
The contest is adjudicated by a trained theater educator. This year, the critic judge was Barry Davis Yandell, Keller ISD.
