I guess lawyers has an advantage in politics.

Torres is a spineless piece of work. Its funny that he is talking about drug use and punishment for it when he himself has a drug of choice. He talks a good game put like most running for office he has his own agenda and that is his career. I personally have seen Mr. Torres at work. I have had "off the record" conversations with him. Drug users should not sit on boards that affect the punishments of other drug users. Don't believe me? Next time you see him at court notice how he always tends to have the sniffles. He has them all year long, flu season or not. There are many more like him. Look at many lawyers including asst. district attorneys, they to have what I call the "lawyer bug".

Being a lawyer is definitely a 'skeleton' key that opens many doors in politics.

i don't think there is many politicians, who haven't been a lawyer or a celebrity :)

To Whom Ever Is "Crazy In The Eastside" about his previous comment,

It seems that the spineless one here is you, It seems that Mike Torres (Lawyer or not) is making a valiant effort to have positive changes in the state of Texas & obviously you are not at all aware of certain legal terms, for example "Defamation of Charcter" You are not giving an opinion sir but literally "attacking" Mr. Torres with your "off the record" story. You can call him "lawyer" all day long...It seems you have everyone pegged out pretty good. Including yourself..."CRAZY" Now, I imagine you're in the medical field because you've diagnosed his sniffles...Get a clue Sherlock!...& a job!
