State Rep. Norma Chavez, D-El Paso, was named today to a subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee that will help decide where money from the federal economic stimulus plan should go.
Texas is expected to get about $17 billion from the $790 billion package that President Obama hopes will create 3.5 million jobs and jolt the nation out of this economic crisis.
Though he has lambasted the economic stimulus package as wasteful, Gov. Rick Perry wrote Obama a letter yesterday saying he'll accept Texas' share. Here's the letter: Download O-ObamaBarack20080218
Other legislators appointed to the subcommittee include state Reps. Myra Crownover, R-Denton; Craig Eiland, D-Galveston; Drew Darby, R-San Angelo; Dawnna Dukes, D-Austin; and, Brandon Creighton, R-Conroe.
