Incoming House Speaker Joe Straus said today that he doesn't have any problem with making wireless Internet access available in the Texas House.
"I don’t know how the other members feel, but I
don’t have a problem with it," he told me at the end of our 20-minute interview.
For those of you who aren't in the Capitol press corps, here's the gripe.
Just about every place in the Capitol has wireless Internet access - the Senate, the committee rooms, the press corp filing room, etc., etc. Heck, just about every coffee shop, eatery, bookstore and public building you go into these days has some wireless Internet access.
But not the Texas House.
Those of us who don't have wireless Internet cards have had to fight for a few Ethernet cords. It can be an unfortunate scene.
Many of us had asked the previous administration to make wireless Internet access available in the House, but to no avail.
I explained the situation to Straus today and asked him if he thought it would be possible to finally bring the Texas House into the 2000s and make it easier for us to do our job of informing the public about what legislators are doing.
"I'd be delighted to help," he said.
"Woohoo," I said, on the inside.
Oh yeah, and we talked about important stuff, too, like the Tiguas and how he's going to run the House and how he was really upset about what happened to state Rep. Pat Haggerty in the Republican Primary last year. Check that out in my story in tomorrow's edition online and in the hard copy.
Next, ask Rick Perry when he is going to wire the Gov's press conference room with video, so outsiders can watch what he's saying to the press.

He won't do it. He has to have everything carefully scripted.
