Margo: Hold onto your seats

Republican Dee Margo, candidate for the Texas House, sent out an e-mail today attacking his opponent for attacking him at recent events.
Here's the e-mail:

I hope this email finds you and your family well.

Over the summer I spent my time meeting with local and state experts about the issues facing El Paso and Texas. We discussed making school districts more efficient so more money can go directly to educating our students, ways to lower healthcare costs for everyone and protect the most vulnerable, completing the medical school and adding a dental school, reducing property taxes to encourage home ownership and limiting how fast home values can increase for tax calculation purposes, and revising the margins tax to make it more fair and equitable.

I want to thank each one of these experts for their time and passion.  It’s what makes El Paso and Texas great.

I have also made four joint appearances with my opponent at various forums around El Paso, and it’s clear he spent his summer sharpening his attacks. After listening to Joe Moody over the past few months, one thing is very clear: he would rather curse the darkness than light a candle.

He talks a lot about “a new way” – but to me it sounds like business as usual. Rattle your sword in El Paso and Austin, come back and blame someone else.

I believe I will produce for you and El Paso. Why? Because I have done it before. I have a track record of building a business, creating jobs, and making El Paso a better place to live and raise a family.

Joe is right about one thing: I’m not asking to be elected to go to Austin and pick a fight. I’m asking to be elected to go to Austin and produce results for El Paso.

I hope you will join me in this task. If Joe Moody’s attacks at these forums are any clue as to how he will run the final days of his campaign, I suggest we hold onto our seats.

I look forward to communicating with you throughout the campaign and hope you will consider joining me in reaching out to voters in the district. Last week my campaign volunteers and I made over 1,300 contacts to voters in District 78. The response has been outstanding! Visit my website today to get involved!

Moody said the e-mail surprised him.
"I’ve been at all those forums, too. I don't think there's been anything negative," he said, adding that he has just been pointing out the differences between his vision and Margo's.
As for cursing the darkness and rattling his sword, Moody said he does plan to be a fighter in Austin when it comes to education, healthcare, green jobs, reopening the Tigua's casino and funding the medical school.
"Those are things I'm ready to work on, I'm ready to fight for," he said. "It takes more than lighting a couple of candles."
It's Margo's who-you-know politics, Moody said, that are politics as usual.
"He knows and has ties to special interests in Austin who have failed our community repeatedly," he said.

Does Margo really live in District 78? Or is he just a temporary resident until the election is over?

i don't think the audience pointing out dee margo's relationship to karl rove and george w. bush is a negative attack; its the truth.

dee margo drove karl rove to a fund raiser for us senator john cornyn in august.

why does dee feel he has to hid this?

Dee is true in some of his statements. Moody rattles on and on about how he is tied to Craddick and the Republicans. Blah Blah Blah. Moody quit giving press to your opponent, tell us what you will do for us regardless of Margo's responses. If you cant present a strong enough case of why I should vote for you instead of rambling on why I shouldnt vote for Margo, then the chose is clear...lets stay republican in 78!!!

Here's five things that Joe wants to do for District 78 according to his webite:

1. Wants to triple the homestead exemption so that homeowners can get a real property tax cut while not risking the value on their home (btw, Dee would benefit from his real house on Blacker, which is still his homestead)

2. Joe wants to end the corruption on political donations as political favors by passing campaign contribution limits.

3. Joe wants to re-look how our teachers teach to our children by supporting legislation that will end the "teach through the test" policy that has failed our children.

4. Joe will strongly support the reopening of Speaking Rock that will help not only our community, but direct money to Texas schools

5. Joe will make sure that Castner Range is protected from developers by ensuring it goes into the Mt. Franklin state park.

Dee is a typical bully. He will show off his gang (Craddick, Perry, Cornyn and Rove) and twist arms when someone doesn't support him, yet when he gets hit with the truth, he cries like a little baby. We don't need babies in the state house, we need new vision and new leadership, while staying true and independent to put El Paso first like Pat Haggerty did.

I do agree with Quest for Truth, I just want to hear talk about the issues and stop with the he said he said melodrama.

As in the presidential election, neither is who I would've liked to see out there vying for us because I think they both will be more of the same. Dee with his GOP relationships with Rove/Bush/etc isn't that bad, so long as he gets stuff done in EP. Moody isn't anything new, he is young and thats exciting, but how do we know he won't bring all of the same shady political leadership to Austin when he's been waist deep and rubbing elbows with it his whole life?

Let's hear some real substance guys, don't be like the DNC and RNC where all we heard was mindless drivel.

HOW can you help us in El Paso? Don't tell me about your plans, tell me how you plan to implement those plans down in Austin. Hoping for change isn't enough, lets see some blueprints drawn out.

Isn't this the same Moody that was trashing El Paso in his blogs and saying he was leaving El Paso just days before he announced he wanted to represent us? NO THANKS. What has Moody done for El Paso. NOTHING. He just sucks the blood out of El Paso and then trashes it. At least Dee has worked tirelessly to improve El Paso, and not necessarily for his gain. Dee is a true El Pasoan and one who cares about El Paso and has a history of helping El Paso. Dee has this latinos Vote.

Dee knows the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES and The Presiden'ts advisor. GOOD FOR DEE! Many El Pasoan's have been appointed to federal Board as a result of his relationship with the President and it has been good for El Paso. Moody should spend some time trying to figure out why he now all of sudden wants to help El Paso instead of trash it on his blog, rather than trying to tear down Dee. Moody is a loser and we would be losers too if we elect him to represent us.

Why would anyoneone vote for this rich Republican? Let's tell this bum and his buddy, the President, where they can go!

Other Republicans should join me in crossing over to vote for Joe Moody.

Dee Margo is not only a carpetbagger -he also has a very thin skin. Not what we need in a public servant.

When you talk to Dee, you get the impression he's going to be working side by side with Rick Perry and Tom Craddick figuring out the budget.

At best he would be a back bench freshman cow-towing to what the far right leadership wants him to do.

We need a young man with energy and ideas, not a burnt out millionaire just looking to add a star on his resume.

Joe Moody makes the most sense for Republicans. Join me in crossing over - the water's just fine over here!

If Dee Margo wants more efficient schools then he should submit legislation that requires all students attending public schools in the State to show proof of citizenship, not residency. I'm sick and tired of my tax dollars being spent on schooling Mexican who are not citizens of the United States. When will the insanity stop?? This Country and in particular the City of El Paso is self-destructing Wake-up El Paso!!!
