Both the candidates for House District 78 are on the money hunt in what many predict will be a pricey battle to represent West and Northeast El Paso.
Republican Dee Margo took advantage of the recent news from Democratic candidate Joe Moody that he is not going to limit his campaign contributions after all to, what else, ask for campaign money. Here's the e-mail from Margo's campaign:

It didn’t take long.  Joe Moody, my opponent, has already broken his first campaign promise.

Joe publicly declared he would limit his campaign contributions to $2,300 per person. At the time, he said the voluntary decision represented a “unique opportunity to regain the respect of El Paso voters and set a new standard of honesty and transparency for Texas.”

Oh, really? Apparently his “new standard” for honesty came with a one-month expiration date. His $2,300 pledge is already a thing of the past.        

Will you help hold Joe accountable by joining my team today?      

I'm surprised and disappointed Joe would break his very first campaign promise.

We've all felt let down from time to time when a candidate gets into office and immediately goes back on their word. But quite honestly this is the first time I’ve ever heard of a candidate seeking the public trust going back on his word six months before the election.        

I guess the promise of huge money from wealthy personal injury trial lawyers outside of El Paso was more appealing than a promise he made to El Paso voters.

Make no mistake: now that Joe has reversed course on campaign contributions, he has opened the floodgates for special interest influence in the race.        

Liberal advocacy groups, lobbyists, radical activists and other deep-pocketed allies will pour money into El Paso from Austin and across the state. These groups are thirsty for a Democrat majority in the state legislature, and see an open seat in El Paso as a golden opportunity.

To be competitive against this approaching tidal wave of outside groups, we must take action now.  The election is less than 200 days away, and there’s no time to lose.

It’s a shame when a candidate’s true colors are shown through false promises. But with your support, we will hold Joe Moody accountable and go toe-to-toe until the very end.

And, Moody is having a campaign fundraiser this week in El Paso, though it appears the invites (Download moody_invite.pdf) might have gone out before the change-of-mind on the limits. The largest amount requested is $2,300. Maybe someone just forgot to add "or more."

I find it interesting that Dee Margo is going on and on about how Joe Moody is showing his "true colors" by chaning his position. This from the guy who claimed he didn't know Tom Craddick, and then days after the primary he is attending a fundraiser hosted by none other than...TOM CRADDICK! How ignorant does Dee think the Northeast and West Side are?
Is he really asking people to help him fight special interests? Is this the same Dee who REFUSED Moody's challenge to limit contributions so ensure he would be able to recieve large sums of money from special interests across the state? Give me a break Dee...El Pasoians are seeing right through this.

P.S. I'm so glad Dee is concerned about Moody's outside contributions, considering...his Tom Craddick fundraiser was held...IN AUSTIN!!!!

Joe Moody stands for nothing. I never saw him stand up for anything in the other races, except for Paul Moreno. His daddy was seen kissing Paul's butt on many occassion and now Joe is seeking Marisa's support, what a bunch of losers and hypocrites. Why didnt Moody show some cojones then!

I dont thing Margo has anything to worry about. Moody's only recognition as a candidate is riding on the coat tails of his daddy Judge. The change of contribution limits can be expected from this young attorney. I guess at this point he will do whatever it takes to draw publicity since he obviously cannot afford advertisement.

To win District 78 "money" is a must. Joe is young and is learning. Dee is "experienced". Dee Margo can say whatever he wants, what I read between the lines is "WOW, this young guy is learning "fast". Watch out Dee . . .
