Moody challenges Margo to money limit

Moody You may or may not remember that Democratic Texas House candidate Joe Moody decided to voluntarily conform to federal campaign contribution limits.
He won't take more than $2,300 from any one individual or more than $5,000 from a political committee.
Or, as Texas Weekly editor Ross Ramsey once described it, tying his wallet behind his back.
Moody is going to face Republican Dee Margo in the November contest for House District 78.
Margo You may also remember that Margo raised more than $380,000 in his primary election slugfest with state Rep. Pat Haggerty.
Moody raised just a shade more than $20,000 in his primary contest with UTEP Professor Louis Irwin.
So today, before Margo was scheduled to attend a fundraiser at the swank Austin Club with Republican House Speaker Tom Craddick, Moody sent him a letter (Download margo_letter_vjtp.pdf) asking him to voluntarily comply with the federal contribution limits, too.
Voters, Moody said, are turned off and cynical because of the public corruption scandal that alleges local elected leaders took campaign contributions in exchange for their votes.
"It would just create a refreshing sense for voters in El Paso," he said.
During a visit with Margo at his campaign consultant's Austin office, he said he would not be taking Moody's challenge.
"I'm a big believer in freedom of speech reflected in the ability to contribute to those who you want," he said.
Margo said he didn't see any correlation between the House candidates' campaigns and the FBI public corruption investigation.
"Voters of El Paso in district 78 will make a determination about what we're going to bring to the table to get things done in Austin," Margo said.
