A scotch and a scratch-off
You could get a lotto ticket and a libation at your local watering hole under a bill the Texas House tentatively approved tonight.
The legislators unanimously approved a bill by state Rep. Chente Quintanilla, D-El Paso, that would allow the sale of lottery tickets at bars and other places where alcohol is sold.
"If a person is going to consume liquor, maybe they will consume less if they can sit there and buy lottery tickets," Quintanilla said.
Plus, he said, hopefully it will bring in more lottery money to send to schools. A legislative analysis of the bill estimates selling tickets in bars could bring in about $64 million over five years.
The bill still has to get through the Senate.
Sure, games of chance significantly reduce drinking.
I guess Chente was impressed by all the sober people he saw on his last trip to Las Vegas.
