The brewer behind Number Brewery are planning the first Sun City Craft Beer Festival on Sept. 28 in Downtown El Paso.
“A couple of friends and I were talking about it and thought El Paso needed something like this. It’s not about just drinking beer, it’s about knowing about it, enjoying it, pairing it with food,” said Nahum Avila, the owner of Number Brewery, which is still in the process of getting its permits as an El Paso microbrewery.
Teaching the finer points of beer drinking is definitely on the agenda for the inaugural festival, where the organizers plan to invite national craft brewers to share their beer and knowledge, on-site brewing demonstrations for those curious about making their own beer, and food trucks to give advice on pairing their food with different styles of beer. There will also be live music.
“We’re having a great reaction from people — people are already buying tickets,” Avila said.
Organizers are even seeking participation from home brewers with a contest for “Best 2013 Home Made Craft Beer” in the Sun City. Home brewers can submit a recipe and first, second and third place recipes will receive monetary prizes, and of course, bragging rights.
Local artists, food vendors, and other businesses are invited to participate in the festival.
